What is the Snowy Scientific Committee?

The Snowy Scientific Committee is a committee established under the Snowy Hydro Corporatisation Act 1997. The functions of the Committee, number of members, its composition, and some guidance as to its operations, are set out in Paragraph 57 of the Act.

The formation of the Snowy Scientific Committee was announced by Minister MacDonald in January 2008.  The Committee met for the first time on 15th May 2008.
Who sits on the Snowy Scientific Committee?

The Snowy Hydro Corporatisation Act 1997 specifies that there are
6 committee members:
  • 4 are nominated by New South Wales
  • 2 are nominated by Victoria

The Chair is an independent scientist with expertise in aquatic environments.

The Snowy Scientific Committee is not subject to the control or direction of the Minister.
